Scale Questions, Answered
What is 1:12 scale?
1:12 scale means every 1 inch (or 1 cm) on the miniature equals 12 inches (or 12 cm) in real life. It is the most common dollhouse scale — a 6ft-tall door becomes a 6in-tall door in a 1:12 dollhouse.
What is 1:24 scale?
Half of 1:12 — 1:24 scale means 1 inch on the miniature equals 24 inches in real life. It is popular for smaller dollhouses and roomboxes where 1:12 pieces would be too large.
What is 1:48 scale?
Also called quarter-inch scale (1/4in = 1ft), 1:48 is a common scale for smaller display dollhouses and is shared with some model railroad (O scale) hobbies.
How do I convert a real measurement to miniature scale?
Divide the real-world measurement by the scale denominator. For 1:12 scale, divide by 12 — a 36in counter becomes 3in in the miniature. This calculator does that division for you automatically, in inches, cm, or mm.
